Kaziranga Wildlife

Wildlife of Kaziranga National Park is marked by dry deciduous forests, rocky landscapes and tall thickets. Kaziranga jungle is home to largest number of swamp deer in eastern India. The great Indian one- horned Rhinoceros, the Asiatic Wild Buffalo, the Asiatic Elephant and the Royal Bengal Tiger are said to be based here. Tiger spotting can be a hell of a task here due to the tall grass which provides an excellent camouflage to them, though the pug marks, kills and territorial markings make their presence felt everywhere.

Kaziranga is also world’s finest birding destination. Apart from the numerous resident species of birds, it provides a visiting ground for various migratory birds from around the world.

Kaziranga jungle is also home to many mammals. To name a few, these are the Fishing Cat, Hog Deer, Jackal, Sloth Bear, etc. Other common sightings are Gharial crocodiles, mass species of reptiles and turtles. Kaziranga jungle is infested with poisonous snakes like Rock Python, Rat Snake, King Cobra, Bengal Cobra, Russel’s Viper, etc. An elephant or jeep safari in Kaziranga can give you a view of this majestic wildlife here.
